Performance in this enclosure
01Is it a sealed driver?
Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 20.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Installer's take
The thinPRO 12 in a 4.5" deep enclosure is the product that stops people in their tracks when they see it installed. A 12" subwoofer running 750W RMS in a box that's 4.5" deep looks wrong, and then it plays, and it sounds exactly like a properly loaded 12". The 5" voice coil and competition-grade motor structure are what make that possible. This is not a compromised shallow-mount driver.
The impedance selection at checkout is fixed, single voice coil, no wiring options. The 4-ohm variant has slightly lower Fs (26Hz vs 25Hz) and slightly higher sensitivity (84dB vs 83dB). In practice both sound essentially the same. Pick whichever matches your amplifier's optimal impedance load.
At 26.5" wide this is the largest Micro Series enclosure in the lineup. It fits most full-size sedan trunks and SUV cargo floors flat, but check the width before ordering. The 17" height is the other measurement to watch for under-seat applications. Most crew cab rear seat clearances won't accommodate 17". This is primarily a trunk floor or cargo area system.

Questions
What makes the Wavtech thinPRO12 different from other shallow mount subwoofers?
Unlike typical shallow subwoofers that compromise on performance, the thinPRO12 features a patent-pending design with dual mirrored NBR spiders and axial force transfer assembly. This allows for over 2 inches of peak-to-peak excursion, significantly more than most shallow subwoofers, while maintaining a mounting depth of just 3 inches. The 5-inch voice coil and advanced motor structure provide exceptional power handling and control for bass that rivals much larger traditional subwoofers.
What are the advantages of the sealed enclosure design used in this package?
The sealed enclosure design provides tight, accurate bass reproduction with excellent transient response and detail. This makes it ideal for all music genres, particularly those where precision and definition are essential. Sealed enclosures are also more compact than ported designs, making them ideal for space-limited applications. Additionally, sealed enclosures provide more forgiving placement options and are less sensitive to positioning within the vehicle.
How much power do I need to drive this subwoofer effectively?
The Wavtech thinPRO12 subwoofer is rated for 750W RMS power handling. We recommend an amplifier capable of delivering 750-1000W RMS at the appropriate impedance (2 or 4 ohms, depending on which subwoofer model you choose) to ensure adequate power without risking damage from overdriving the system.
Can I use this enclosure in a down-firing configuration?
Yes, this enclosure is designed to work in both standard and down-firing configurations. The optional feet included with the package allow for easy conversion to down-firing operation, which can enhance bass coupling with the vehicle's interior space in certain installations, particularly under-seat or in cargo areas.
Can I add a second subwoofer to this enclosure in the future?
No, this enclosure is specifically designed for a single 12-inch subwoofer. Suppose you're interested in a dual subwoofer setup. In that case, we recommend checking out our Proline-X Dual 12" enclosures, which are specifically engineered to house two subwoofers with optimal internal volume and bracing for balanced performance.
Will this system work well for all types of music?
The combination of high-performance thinPRO12 subwoofers in a precisely tuned sealed enclosure delivers excellent bass reproduction across all music genres. The sealed design provides tight, accurate bass that works exceptionally well for rock, jazz, classical, and acoustic music. At the same time, the high power handling and excursion capabilities ensure plenty of output for hip-hop, EDM, and other bass-heavy genres.
How does the shallow design affect bass performance compared to traditional subwoofers?
The innovative engineering of the thinPRO12 subwoofers overcomes the typical limitations of shallow designs. With 20mm of linear Xmax and over 2 inches of peak-to-peak excursion, these subwoofers move as much air as many traditional designs. The composite honeycomb cone, massive voice coil, and advanced motor structure ensure that bass is reproduced with the depth, impact, and control you'd expect from much larger drivers.
What is the lead time and how does shipping work?
This system is assembled to order in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Allow 2–5 business days for assembly before it ships. Shipping to the lower 48 states is included. No freight charges added at checkout. You'll receive a tracking number when the order ships.
