This enclosure holds 1.00 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Arc Audio A12 runs a system Qtc of 1.18 with half power at 35.6 Hz, and the cone reaches its 12.76 mm travel limit at 363 W, above the driver’s 300 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 374 W — +10 W, or 3 percent more power for the same 12.76 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 12.76 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 12.76 mm. Unfiltered that is 363 W, reached first at 38 Hz. It sits above the 300 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 374 W before hitting the same 12.76 mm. That is 3 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

Measure the width before anything else. At 28.5 inches this cabinet is wider than most people picture when they hear shallow 12, and width is what usually kills the install rather than depth. Behind a rear seat in a crew cab it generally goes. Under a seat it does not. Check the actual flat run you have and allow clearance for the terminal cup and your amplifier leads on top of the cabinet dimension.

The 5.25 inch mounting depth is the number that makes this work. It is not a shallow driver in the way the A10 is, it is a moderate depth 12 in a cabinet built tightly around it. If your space is genuinely tight in depth rather than width, measure to the millimetre before ordering, because there is not much margin either side.

The driver mounts to 8/32 threaded inserts rather than screws into board, so it will come out and go back in cleanly if you ever pull it for service. Your only work here is the amplifier run and securing the cabinet properly. A loaded 12 at this size carries real mass and needs anchoring to the vehicle rather than sitting loose on a carpeted floor.

What comes in this system?

A Proline X Micro Series sealed enclosure at 1.0 cubic foot net in plush black, with the Arc Audio A12 already mounted to 8/32 threaded inserts, wired and sealed against the baffle in your chosen D2 or D4 configuration. Polyfill is installed and wiring runs 12 gauge OFC to a recessed Proline X terminal cup. An amplifier, power wire and RCA cables are not included.

Should I choose D2 or D4?

Whichever matches the load your amplifier is stable at. D2 wired parallel gives a 1 ohm final load or 4 ohms in series. D4 wired parallel gives 2 ohms or 8 ohms in series. Most single subwoofer builds run the D4 parallel at 2 ohms. Decide before ordering, because the driver is installed and the cabinet is sealed before it ships.

Do I need an amplifier, and how much power?

Yes. This is a passive enclosure with no amplification built in. Target 250 to 300 watts RMS at your wired impedance from a Class D monoblock. The A12 is rated at 300 watts RMS, so a clean amplifier at that output is the correct match. A clean amplifier at the rated power will outperform a clipping one at double it. If you are keeping the factory head unit you will also need a line output converter or a DSP with speaker level inputs.

Why 1.0 cubic foot?

Because that is what Arc Audio publishes as the optimum for the A12. Their sealed range is 0.85 to 1.25 cubic feet and 1.0 is the centre of it, which produces the flattest sealed response and the most controlled transient behaviour. Net volume here is calculated by summing each CNC cut layer's opening rather than estimated from external dimensions, so the figure is exact rather than approximate.

Will this fit behind my seat?

Measure the width first. At 28.5 inches wide this is broader than people expect from a shallow 12, and width is usually what decides the install rather than the 7.5 inch depth. Behind a rear seat in a crew cab it generally goes. Under a seat it does not. Allow clearance for the terminal cup and amplifier leads on top of the cabinet dimensions.

How does the A12 compare to the A10?

Same design intent, more output. The A12 is rated at 300 watts RMS against the A10's 250, and the larger cone moves more air at the same excursion. Character is the same: controlled, accurate, front stage friendly rather than built for a meter reading. The A10 cabinet is 24 inches wide and 6 deep, this one is 28.5 wide and 7.5 deep, so the A12 asks for more space in both directions.

What is the warranty on this system?

The enclosure carries a 2 year limited warranty on craftsmanship and materials, which is the standard across the Micro Series and Professional Series. Performance and Performance Optimized enclosures carry 1 year. The Arc Audio A12 carries its own manufacturer warranty separately, handled through Arc Audio.

Why does the driver mount to threaded inserts?

Because screws into MDF hold well the first time and progressively worse after that. The baffle carries 8/32 threaded inserts on the back face with stainless machine screws supplied, so the driver mounts to steel rather than into board. That gives consistent clamping force at every point and lets the driver come out and go back in cleanly at any service interval without stripping the hole.
