This enclosure holds 0.50 cu ft net per chamber. In it the JL Audio 10TW3-D4 runs a system Qtc of 0.96 with half power at 40.1 Hz, and the cone reaches its 15.2 mm travel limit at 672 W, above the driver’s 400 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 708 W — +36 W, or 5 percent more power for the same 15.2 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 49.2
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 D4 49.2
D4 · EBP 49.2
EBP under 50 means a motor that wants a sealed load. The 10TW3-D4 sits at 49.2, inside that band, which is why this is a sealed build rather than a ported one.

02What the box does to it

0.50 cu ft against a 19.8 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 1.40  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 50 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.96
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +6 +0 -6 -12 -18 -24 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB
D4 · Qtc 0.96, Fc 50 Hz, F3 40.1 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 32.3 Hz free-air to 50 Hz and half power lands at 40.1 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 15.2 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 672 W unfiltered  →  708 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 4 8 12 16 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 15.2 mm 672 W reaches Xmax here
D4 · 672 W, no filterD4 · 708 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 15.2 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 15.2 mm. Unfiltered that is 672 W, reached first at 34 Hz. It sits above the 400 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 708 W before hitting the same 15.2 mm. That is 5 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

The 10TW3-D4 is the driver that proves shallow-mount doesn't mean low-performance. The concentric tube motor is the reason: it's a fundamentally different architecture than a conventional motor shrunk to fit a shallow package. The 15.2mm Xmax is real and usable. In the 0.50 ft³ sealed Micro Series box with polyfill it performs like a properly loaded full-depth driver in a fraction of the space.

The 5.25" depth is the number to work with on fitment. Most under-seat truck applications and compact trunk builds can accommodate that. Measure carefully. 5.25" sounds small until you're working around seat rail brackets or cargo floor lips. The enclosure can also be run down-fire with rubber feet if clearance permits. That orientation works well in applications where the floor couples with the enclosure bottom.

One note: at 82.1dB sensitivity this driver is not the most efficient shallow-mount on the market. Feed it a clean 300–400W and it performs. Underpower it and you'll leave output on the table.

Questions

How much power do I need for the JL Audio 10TW3-D4?

The JL Audio 10TW3-D4 is rated to handle 400 watts RMS, so we recommend amplifiers that can deliver 300-500 watts RMS at the final impedance you'll be using. The dual 4-ohm voice coils can be wired to present either a 2-ohm or 8-ohm load to your amplifier, providing flexibility in system design.

What is the lead time and how does shipping work?

This system is assembled to order in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Allow 2–5 business days for assembly before it ships. Shipping to the lower 48 states is included. No freight charges added at checkout. You'll receive a tracking number when the order ships.

Will this system fit under the seat of my truck?

The enclosure's combined dimensions (21.5" × 14.5" × 5.25") make it suitable for many under-seat applications in trucks, especially extended cab and crew cab models. We recommend measuring your available space before purchasing. We also offer custom-sized versions of our Micro Series enclosures for tight installations.

How does this shallow subwoofer compare to traditional deeper subwoofers?

The JL Audio 10TW3-D4 utilizes advanced technologies like the concentric tube structure and DMA-optimized motor to deliver performance comparable to much larger conventional subwoofers. While the very deepest bass notes might have slightly less output than larger designs, most listeners are amazed at the performance achieved from such a compact system.

Is this a ported or sealed enclosure?

This ProLine X Micro Series enclosure is a sealed (acoustic suspension) design. We chose the sealed configuration for its superior transient response, accuracy, and compact size requirements. The enclosure volume has been precisely calculated to match the JL Audio 10TW3-D4's Thiele/Small parameters for optimal performance. The stack fab construction method used in this enclosure enhances the rigidity of the sealed design, further improving bass quality and minimizing unwanted resonances.

Can this system be installed in a downfiring configuration?

Absolutely! One of the key advantages of our ProLine X Micro Series enclosure is its versatility. Optional rubber feet that allow for a down-firing installation. This configuration can be particularly effective in certain vehicles where space is limited above the subwoofer or where you want to protect the driver cone. The down-firing setup can also enhance bass coupling with the vehicle's floor, potentially improving low-frequency efficiency in some installations.

What kind of music does this subwoofer excel at reproducing?

The JL Audio 10TW3-D4 in our ProLine X Micro Series enclosure delivers excellent performance across all music genres. Its tight, accurate bass reproduction makes it particularly well-suited for rock, jazz, acoustic, and electronic music. The precise control and musicality also make it excellent for hip-hop and EDM, though those seeking extreme SPL may want to consider a larger system.

What warranty and shipping come with this enclosure?

The enclosure carries a 2 year limited warranty and ships free to the lower 48 states. Ordered loaded, the 10TW3-D4 carries its own manufacturer warranty through authorized dealers. Every enclosure is built one at a time in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
