Performance in this enclosure
01Is it a sealed driver?
Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.
02What the box does to it
0.75 cu ft against a 37.2 L Vas.
03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)
Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 19.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Installer's take
Check your depth before anything else. The IDMAX10 needs 7.68 inches of mounting depth, which is deep for a 10 inch driver and catches people who assume a 10 is automatically the shallow option. This is not a behind seat driver. If your space is depth limited, you want a shallow mount 10 rather than this.
Give it real power. The IDMAX is one of the few drivers where underpowering is the more common mistake than overpowering. Image Dynamics recommend 200 to 1000 watts and the driver comes alive in the upper half of that. A small amplifier driven into clipping will sound worse and be harder on the voice coil than a larger amplifier running comfortably.
The field replaceable cone assembly is worth knowing about before you ever need it. Sixteen screws and a set of alignment shims, no glue and no press. If you damage a cone in five years the driver is rebuildable rather than scrap, which is unusual at any price and is a large part of why the IDMAX holds value.
How it's built
Construction

Image Dynamics IDMAX12 V4 10 inch Subwoofer
Precision Engineering
The IDMAX12D2 V.4 is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, focusing on delivering clean, accurate sound reproduction. Its advanced design minimizes distortion, ensuring that each note is crisp and well-defined even at higher volumes. This makes it ideal for enthusiasts seeking both power and clarity in their car audio system.
Low-Frequency Response
Engineered to handle low frequencies exceptionally well, this subwoofer produces deep, powerful bass. Its 12-inch size and dual 2-ohm voice coils allow it to generate ground-shaking sound that immerses the listener, making it perfect for genres like hip-hop, EDM, and other bass-heavy music.
High Power Handling
With a power handling capability of 1000W RMS, the IDMAX12D2 V.4 can maintain consistent performance even under extreme conditions. This ensures that the subwoofer provides a balanced, distortion-free listening experience, whether at low or high volumes.
Durable Construction
The IDMAX12D2 V.4 is built to last, featuring a rugged, high-quality cone and surround material that withstands heavy use. This level of durability ensures that your subwoofer will perform reliably over time, even in the most demanding environments.

Acoustic Precision and Sound Isolation
Tight, Focused Sound
The sealed enclosure design keeps the bass response tight and controlled. Unlike vented designs, this approach avoids excessive air movement that can muddy sound clarity. The result is a balanced bass output that integrates seamlessly with the rest of the audio system. This ensures users experience a cohesive and immersive soundstage.

Professional Appearance
Sleek Design
The enclosure’s clean lines and carpet finish offer a professional, polished look. This aesthetic complements most vehicle interiors, adding a touch of sophistication to any setup. It’s designed to appeal to users who value both form and function. The appearance reflects the high-quality construction and engineering.

Questions
What comes in this system?
A Proline X sealed enclosure at 0.75 cubic feet net, with the Image Dynamics IDMAX10 V4 already mounted, gasketed and sealed against the baffle. Prewired with 12 gauge OFC to a recessed Proline X terminal cup, polyfill installed. An amplifier, power wire and RCA cables are not included.
How much amplifier power does the IDMAX need?
Target 600 to 1000 watts RMS at your final impedance. Image Dynamics recommend 200 to 1000 watts and rate the driver conservatively. Underpowering is the more common mistake here than overpowering. A small amplifier driven into clipping sounds worse and is harder on the voice coil than a larger amplifier running comfortably below its limit.
How does a 1000 watt driver work in a 0.75 cubic foot box?
Because in a sealed cabinet this size the air spring restricts cone travel, so the driver reaches its thermal limit before it reaches mechanical Xmax at rated power. The enclosure is doing the limiting rather than the motor. High power handling and compact sealed volume are not in tension the way people assume, and you can see it for yourself by running the numbers through our Xmax calculator.
How deep does the IDMAX10 need to be?
7.68 inches of mounting depth, which is deep for a 10 inch driver and catches people who assume a 10 is automatically the shallow option. This is not a behind seat driver. If your space is depth limited you want a shallow mount 10 such as the JL 10TW3 or the Wavtech thinPRO 10 instead.
What does field replaceable cone assembly mean?
Sixteen screws and a set of alignment shims, no glue and no press. If you damage a cone the driver is rebuildable rather than scrap. That is unusual at any price point and is a large part of why the IDMAX holds its value on the used market.
Is the IDMAX an SPL driver or an SQ driver?
Both, which is the point of it. A 400 ounce Extended Y-35 motor with 19.5mm of one-way Xmax gives it the output of an SPL driver, and a light rigid glass fibre and pulp cone gives it the composure of a sound quality driver. Most drivers make you choose. The IDMAX was built specifically so you do not have to.
What is the warranty on this system?
The enclosure carries a limited warranty on craftsmanship and materials from Audio Intensity. The Image Dynamics IDMAX10 V4 carries its own 1 year manufacturer warranty separately, handled through Image Dynamics.
Should I choose the D2 or D4 version?
Whichever matches the load your amplifier is stable at. The parameters differ slightly between them: the D4 has a Qts of 0.44 and 84.5 dB sensitivity, the D2 has a Qts of 0.50 and 83.5 dB. In this 0.75 cubic foot cabinet the D4 lands slightly tighter and the D2 slightly warmer. Pick on amplifier compatibility first, since the difference in character is small next to getting the impedance right.
