Installer's take
Do not obstruct the radiator. It moves, and it needs the same clearance in front of it that the driver does. A seat pushed hard back, a jack, a toolbag wedged against it will all restrict travel and the customer will report the box sounds weak. Check clearance at the radiator as well as at the driver before you sign the job off.
Set gain conservatively. The radiator extends output below where a sealed box would roll off, which means the driver keeps working at frequencies where it would otherwise have been protected by the enclosure. Below the radiator's tuning the driver unloads, so a high pass filter is worth setting rather than skipping. This is the one build in the Ford line where a subsonic filter earns its keep.
Check your year first, as with every build in this line. 2015 to 2023 F-150 and 2017 to 2023 F-250. Ford changed the platform for 2024 and the boxes do not interchange.
How it's built
Construction

Fits 2015-2023 F-150 and 2017-2023 F-250
What It Fits
F-150 from 2015 to 2023 and F-250 Super Duty from 2017 to 2023. It mounts on the passenger side behind the rear seat. The 2024 trucks need additional modification, so talk to us before ordering for one.
What the Install Actually Requires
This is a direct fit, not a drop-in. Plan on minor modification or removal of the factory back paneling, relocating the OEM jack and its holder, moving the factory satellite radio module to a higher position, and removing the factory subwoofer if your truck has one.
What You Keep
Access to the under-seat storage and tools is preserved.
Sealed With a Passive Radiator
Why a Radiator Instead of a Port
A passive radiator is a driver with no motor, tuned by its own moving mass and suspension rather than by a column of air. It extends low frequency output the way a port does, without needing port length. Behind a truck seat there is nowhere to put a port of useful length, which is why this build uses a radiator.
No Port Noise
Port noise is air velocity through an opening. A radiator has no opening and no air moving through it, so that failure mode does not exist here. It matters more in a truck than most places, because you are sitting a few feet from the enclosure with the windows up.
Net Volume
0.5 cubic feet net, cut on our ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite 3/4 inch MDF. The figure is true net internal airspace after the walls, bracing and driver displacement are accounted for.

Under-Seat Storage Stays Accessible
Storage Stays Usable
The enclosure sits behind the rear seat rather than under it, so access to the under-seat storage and tools is preserved.
Factory Look
Carpet wrapped and shaped to the cab, so the install reads as factory rather than as a box someone set behind the seat.
Loaded With the JL Audio 10TW3-D4
The Driver
400 watts RMS and 800 peak, 15.2mm one-way linear Xmax, 3.25 inch mounting depth, dual 4 ohm coils wiring to 2 ohm in parallel or 8 ohm in series.
Why This Driver Here
The 10TW3-D4 is JL's thin-line design, built to work in the airspace a truck cab actually has. Its published Fs is 32.3 Hz, Qts 0.620 and Vas 19.82 litres, and JL's own sealed recommendation starts at 0.50 cubic feet, which is what this cabinet is cut to.

Questions
What is a passive radiator and why use one here?
A passive radiator is a driver with no motor, tuned by its own moving mass and suspension rather than by a column of air. It does the same job as a port, extending low frequency output, but without needing port length. In a behind seat truck location there is nowhere to put a port of useful length, so a radiator is the only way to get more reach out of this cab without making the cabinet bigger.
PR Edition or the standard sealed build?
The PR reaches lower and hits harder in the bottom octave. The sealed build rolls off more gently and stays composed under any signal. For most truck builds the PR is the better choice. If you run a lot of very low content or want the tightest possible response, take the sealed version. Both use the same driver and the same cab fitment.
Will the radiator make port noise?
No, and that is one of the real advantages here. Port noise is air velocity through an opening. A radiator has no opening and no air moving through it, so that failure mode does not exist. It matters more in a truck than most places, because you are sitting a few feet from the enclosure with the windows up.
Do I need a subsonic filter?
Yes, and this is the one build in our Ford line where it genuinely earns its keep. Below the radiator's tuning the driver unloads, the same way it would below port tuning in a ported box. A sealed enclosure protects the driver at those frequencies automatically. A radiator alignment does not, so set a high pass filter rather than skipping it.
Which trucks does this fit?
The 2015 to 2023 Ford F-150 and the 2017 to 2023 Ford F-250. Ford changed the platform for 2024 and the enclosures are not interchangeable. Check your model year before ordering.
Does the radiator need clearance behind the seat?
Yes. The radiator moves and needs the same clearance in front of it as the driver does. A seat pushed hard back, a jack or a bag wedged against it will restrict travel and the system will sound weak. Check clearance at the radiator as well as at the driver when you set the enclosure.
Do I need an amplifier, and how much power?
Yes. This is a passive enclosure with no amplification built in. The driver ships wired to 2 ohms, so target 300 to 400 watts RMS at 2 ohms from a Class D monoblock with a usable high pass filter. If you are keeping the factory head unit you will also need a line output converter or a DSP with speaker level inputs.
What is the warranty on this system?
The enclosure carries a 2 year limited warranty on craftsmanship and materials, which is the standard across the Vehicle Specific line. The JL Audio 10TW3-D4 carries its own manufacturer warranty separately, handled through JL Audio.
