Custom Subwoofer Boxes Built to Your Sub

A custom subwoofer box from Proline X is designed around one subwoofer: yours. We take the manufacturer's published Thiele-Small parameters, solve the net volume, the alignment and the port for that driver, machine the baffle to its flange and bolt pattern, and fit the cabinet to the space you have. Every panel is CNC cut from 3/4" Langboard Elite MDF in our own shop in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Most of the Proline X subwoofer boxes already listed were built exactly this way, for drivers people asked about. If yours is not in a series table yet, the routers are ours, so a different volume or cutout is a conversation rather than a special order.

Custom vs prefab: what actually changes

A prefab box is sized to a driver diameter. It assumes every 12" sub wants roughly the same airspace, and it cuts one generic hole in the baffle. That assumption is where most of the lost output comes from. Two subwoofers of the same nominal size can want net volumes that differ by half a cubic foot, and a ported tuning that suits one can be wrong for the other.

  • Volume. The net airspace is solved for your driver after subtracting its displacement, the bracing and, on a ported box, the port itself. See how driver displacement changes a box.
  • Alignment and tuning. Sealed boxes are solved to a target Qtc; ported boxes to a tuning frequency that suits the driver and the vehicle. See choosing a tuning frequency.
  • Cutout. The baffle is machined to your driver's flange and bolt pattern, so the basket seats flush with no gap to seal around.
  • Space. The shape follows where the box has to live: a standard cabinet in a trunk, a wedge against a seat back, a down-fire on a cargo floor, or a shallow build behind a truck seat.

The cabinet construction does not change between a listed box and a custom one. It is the same MDF, the same joinery and the same hardware. What changes is how tightly the cabinet is tied to the driver.

How we design a custom box

  1. You tell us the sub. Brand, model, size, how many, and single or dual voice coil. A link to the manufacturer's spec page helps.
  2. You tell us the space. Height, width and depth you can give up, plus anything in the way: a seat back angle, a spare tire well, a jack.
  3. We solve it. Volume, alignment, port and cutout come from the driver's published parameters. We design the box; you do not have to pick an airspace or a tuning.
  4. We check it fits. External dimensions, mounting depth and cabinet weight are confirmed against your space before anything is cut.
  5. We cut and build it. CNC routed, glued, braced, carpeted and pre-wired to the terminal cup in Tullahoma.

Styles we can build around your sub

  • Performance Optimized: the driver-matched build, with a 1.5" double front baffle, in standard, wedge and down-fire shapes.
  • Professional Series: heavier baffle, more bracing and larger port work for drivers built for output.
  • Micro Series: sealed shallow-mount cabinets for spaces a standard box will not fit.
  • Vehicle Specific: cut to the shape of one truck or SUV.
  • Down-firing boxes: the driver loads off the floor and the cone stays protected.

What every custom box includes

  • 3/4" Langboard Elite MDF, CNC cut, joined with dado and V-groove cuts or stack fabricated from layered panels, with internal bracing
  • Black carpet finish
  • Pre-wired in 12-gauge OFC to a Proline X ABS and carbon-fiber composite terminal cup, with copper ring terminals and stainless hardware
  • Polyfill installed in sealed boxes, with the quoted volume calculated with the fill in place; ported boxes ship dry with their tuning stated

Driver mounting hardware is not supplied, because the correct fastener depends on the driver. Use what the manufacturer specifies.

How long does a custom box take?

A one-off custom enclosure typically ships in 7 to 10 business days once the design is confirmed.

Where do you ship?

Custom enclosures ship to the lower 48 United States.

What if my subwoofer is not in any of your tables?

That is what a custom box is for. Send the brand and model and a link to its spec page. If the manufacturer does not publish full parameters, we will tell you what we need before we design anything.

Can I choose my own airspace or tuning?

No. We design the box from the driver's parameters and your space, and we stand behind that design. If you have a specific goal, like more low-end extension or a smaller footprint, tell us and we will design toward it.

What warranty does a custom box carry?

The warranty of the series it is built as: one year on Performance and Performance Optimized builds, two years on Professional, Micro and Vehicle Specific builds.

Can I return a custom box?

One-off custom enclosures are final sale, except for shipping damage or a build error on our side.
