01Is this driver right for a ported box?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 57.1
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 EBP 57.1
Musway MG10 · EBP 57.1
Between 50 and 100 a driver takes either load, and the choice becomes one of priorities rather than of physics. The Musway MG10 reads 57.1. Ported buys output and low-end reach around tuning; sealed buys a shallower rolloff below it. This cabinet takes the first trade.

02What the box does to it

1.62 cu ft net against a 63.0 L Vas, vented at 35.0 Hz.

Fb = 35.0 Hz  ·  F3 = 36.9 Hz  ·  passband ripple 1.19 dB
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +4 0 −4 −8 −12 −16 −20 −24 −28 −32 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB Fb 35.0
Musway MG10 · Fb 35.0 Hz, F3 36.9 Hz
Anechoic, before any cabin gain, with the 28 Hz subsonic filter already applied. The vent takes over below 35 Hz and the cone stops doing the work there, which is what holds travel down at the bottom of the passband.

03Ported vs Sealed

No sealed comparison is shown for this driver.

A ported-versus-sealed chart is only worth reading against a sealed box someone would actually build: the one we make for the driver, or the one its maker recommends. Neither exists for the Musway MG10 — we do not build a sealed enclosure for it and Musway publish no sealed volume for it — so rather than compare this cabinet against itself stuffed and sealed, a box no one would build, the comparison is left out.

04The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts both cones exactly on Musway's published 20.0 mm. The two traces are the same cabinet with the subsonic filter switched on and switched off. Every power figure in this section is for the pair, split evenly.

PXmax = 6729 W with a 28 Hz subsonic  ·  839 W with none  →  the filter is worth 8.0×
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 8 16 24 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 20.0 mm 6729 W reaches Xmax here
6729 W · subsonic at 28 Hz, 24 dB/oct839 W · no subsonic filterXmax 20.0 mm one-way, published
Each trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts the cone on 20.0 mm. With a 28 Hz subsonic that takes 6729 W, reached first at 52 Hz. Take the filter away and the same cabinet reaches 20.0 mm on 839 W — the filter is worth 8.0× the safe power. A vent unloads the cone below tuning, so there is nothing holding it once the box stops loading: on a sealed build a subsonic filter is an improvement, here it is required equipment. The unfiltered trace is still rising where this chart stops at 20 Hz, so treat 839 W as a bound rather than a floor. Every wattage on this page is a MECHANICAL limit, not an electrical one. It is the power at which the cone runs out of linear travel in this cabinet, and nothing more. What the voice coil can dissipate as heat is a separate ceiling set by the driver, not by the box — Musway rate this one at 1000 W RMS, and that is the number that binds first here: heat stops you before travel does, so treat 1000 W as the ceiling and the travel figures above as headroom. Final wired impedance, amplifier output and how long you hold the level are all electrical questions this graph does not answer.

Installer's take

Two MG10s on 1.62 cubic feet at 35.0 Hz, one shared chamber, 36.9 Hz anechoic. The mouth runs about 15 m/s with both at 500 watts.

Drivers sit at 8.625 and 23.375 from the mouth side, braces between them, each motor inside a brace window.

No bolt circle is published, so the inserts ship in the kit. Ships dry, subsonic near 29 Hz.

Questions

Why is this enclosure tuned to 35.0 Hz?

This cabinet gives the pair 1.62 cubic feet in one shared chamber, 0.81 per driver, vented at 35.0 Hz through a 23.0 square inch triangular port, and reaches 36.9 Hz anechoic. Musway's own vented recommendation for one MG10 is 32 litres (1.13 cubic feet) at 38 Hz; a dual wedge is capped at 32 inches wide and 15 tall, so each driver gets less air than that here and the tuning sits a touch lower. The port runs 23.0 m/s in the channel and 15.0 at the flared mouth with both drivers at 500 watts, and each cone peaks at 7.7 of its 20 mm. Passband ripple is 1.2 dB. Our sealed dual wedge (PO 10D-S W MG10) holds 1.06 cubic feet per chamber at Qtc 0.70 with half power at 46 Hz; this ported box reaches deeper.

Why the 20 degree wedge, and why rear-firing?

The rake on the back matches a factory rear seat so the cabinet sits flush and the trunk floor in front stays usable; the baffle is vertical and fires rearward, using the trunk as an acoustic extension.

Do I need a subsonic filter?

Yes. Below 35.0 Hz the port no longer controls the cones; set the filter near 29 Hz.

How much power can I run, and at what impedance?

Musway rates the MG10 at 500 watts RMS per driver, 1000 across the pair; aim for 350 to 500 per driver. Each MG10 has two 2 ohm coils: a pair lands on 2 ohms with each woofer's coils in series and the two woofers in parallel, or 8 ohms all in series. 0.5 ohm, everything in parallel, is outside what most amplifiers are built for.

Would a sealed box be better for me?

Our sealed dual MG10 wedge holds 1.06 cubic feet per chamber at Qtc 0.70, half power 46 Hz: tighter and smaller. This ported box reaches 36.9 Hz on the same pair.

How does the side port work?

The port is a triangular slot along the back, 24.0 inches of path, exiting through the side panel with a rounded mouth so the air leaves without a sharp edge to chuff on.

Does this enclosure ship with polyfill?

No, and do not add any: fill in a ported box detunes it.

Are the MG10s included?

No. This is an enclosure only, for a pair you supply. You receive the cabinet in plush black carpet with the gloss black acrylic insert, the side-mounted pre-wired terminal cup and a threaded insert kit with stainless machine screws.
