01Is this driver right for a ported box?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 43.0
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 EBP 43.0
Audiomobile GT2 2010 · EBP 43.0
Under 50 the raw number leans sealed. The Audiomobile GT2 2010 reads 43.0, so this is a ported build against the grain of its own EBP: it works because the alignment is tuned for in-car response rather than for an anechoic curve, and because the cabinet holds port area and volume the driver can actually use.

02What the box does to it

1.61 cu ft net against a 66.4 L Vas, vented at 32.5 Hz.

Fb = 32.5 Hz  ·  F3 = 32.8 Hz  ·  passband ripple 3.15 dB
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +8 +4 0 −4 −8 −12 −16 −20 −24 −28 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB Fb 32.5
Audiomobile GT2 2010 · Fb 32.5 Hz, F3 32.8 Hz
Anechoic, before any cabin gain, with the 26 Hz subsonic filter already applied. The vent takes over below 32 Hz and the cone stops doing the work there, which is what holds travel down at the bottom of the passband.

03Ported vs Sealed

No sealed comparison is shown for this driver.

A ported-versus-sealed chart is only worth reading against a sealed box someone would actually build: the one we make for the driver, or the one its maker recommends. Neither exists for the Audiomobile GT2 2010 — we do not build a sealed enclosure for it and Audiomobile publish no sealed volume for it — so rather than compare this cabinet against itself stuffed and sealed, a box no one would build, the comparison is left out.

04The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts both cones exactly on Audiomobile's published 11.9 mm. The two traces are the same cabinet with the subsonic filter switched on and switched off. Every power figure in this section is for the pair, split evenly.

PXmax = 1789 W with a 26 Hz subsonic  ·  296 W with none  →  the filter is worth 6.0×
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 4 8 12 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 11.9 mm design limit 10.1 mm · 70% BL derated 1789 W reaches Xmax here
1789 W · subsonic at 26 Hz, 24 dB/oct296 W · no subsonic filterXmax 11.9 mm one-way, published
Each trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts the cone on 11.9 mm. With a 26 Hz subsonic that takes 1789 W, reached first at 49 Hz. Take the filter away and the same cabinet reaches 11.9 mm on 296 W — the filter is worth 6.0× the safe power. A vent unloads the cone below tuning, so there is nothing holding it once the box stops loading: on a sealed build a subsonic filter is an improvement, here it is required equipment. The unfiltered trace is still rising where this chart stops at 20 Hz, so treat 296 W as a bound rather than a floor. Every wattage on this page is a MECHANICAL limit, not an electrical one. It is the power at which the cone runs out of linear travel in this cabinet, and nothing more. What the voice coil can dissipate as heat is a separate ceiling set by the driver, not by the box — Audiomobile rate this one at 800 W RMS, and that is the number that binds first here: heat stops you before travel does, so treat 800 W as the ceiling and the travel figures above as headroom. Final wired impedance, amplifier output and how long you hold the level are all electrical questions this graph does not answer. The dashed line at 10.1 mm is the figure the cabinet was actually designed against: Audiomobile publish this Xmax on a 70% BL basis, and we derate it before sizing the port so the alignment carries margin against an optimistic spec rather than sitting right on it.

From the shop floor

Installer's take

Two GT2s on 1.61 cubic feet at 32.5 Hz, one shared chamber, 32.8 Hz anechoic. The mouth runs about 13 m/s with both at 400 watts.

Drivers sit at 8.625 and 23.375 from the mouth side, braces at the third points, each motor inside a brace window.

No bolt circle is published, so the inserts ship in the kit. Ships dry, subsonic near 26 Hz.

Questions

Why is this enclosure tuned to 32.5 Hz?

Audiomobile recommends the GT2 2010 vented, 0.75 to 1.25 cubic feet at 33 to 37 Hz per driver, and a Qts of 0.61 means no trunk-sized sealed box makes it flat: our 0.80 cubic foot sealed wedge reads Qtc 0.96. This cabinet gives the pair 1.61 cubic feet in one shared chamber, 0.81 per driver, vented at 32.5 Hz through a 21.4 square inch triangular port, and reaches 32.8 Hz anechoic. The port runs 20.8 m/s in the channel and 13.3 at the flared mouth with both drivers at 400 watts, and each cone peaks at 8.0 of its derated 10.1 mm. Passband ripple is 3.1 dB.

Why the 20 degree wedge, and why rear-firing?

The rake on the back matches a factory rear seat so the cabinet sits flush and the trunk floor in front stays usable; the baffle is vertical and fires rearward, using the trunk as an acoustic extension.

Do I need a subsonic filter?

Yes. Below 32.5 Hz the port no longer controls the cones; set the filter near 26 Hz.

How much power can I run, and at what impedance?

Audiomobile rates the GT2 2010 at 400 watts RMS per driver, 800 across the pair; aim for 280 to 400 per driver. Each GT2 has a single 3 ohm coil: the pair is 1.5 ohms in parallel or 6 ohms in series.

Would a sealed box be better for me?

Our sealed GT2 wedges hold 0.80 cubic feet per driver at Qtc 0.96: tighter, smaller and dry. Ported reaches deeper on the same driver, and Audiomobile recommends the GT2 vented.

How does the side port work?

The port is a triangular slot along the back, 26.3 inches of path, exiting through the side panel with a rounded mouth so the air leaves without a sharp edge to chuff on.

Does this enclosure ship with polyfill?

No, and do not add any: fill in a ported box detunes it.

Is the GT2 2010 included?

No. This is an enclosure only, for a pair you supply. You receive the cabinet in plush black carpet with the gloss black acrylic insert, the side-mounted pre-wired terminal cup and a threaded insert kit with stainless machine screws.
