This enclosure holds 0.551 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Arc Audio SW10D2 runs a system Qtc of 0.84–0.86 with half power at 45.2–45.9 Hz, and the cone reaches its 14.7 mm travel limit at 732 W, above the driver’s 350 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 784 W — +53 W, or 7 percent more power for the same 14.7 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 53.0–54.4
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 series 54.4 parallel 53.0
series · EBP 54.4parallel · EBP 53.0
At 53.0–54.4 the SW10D2 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

02What the box does to it

0.551 cu ft against a 13.0 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 0.83  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 53 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.84–0.86
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +6 +0 -6 -12 -18 -24 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB
series · Qtc 0.84, Fc 53 Hz, F3 45.9 Hzparallel · Qtc 0.86, Fc 53 Hz, F3 45.2 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 39.3 Hz free-air to 53 Hz and half power lands at 45.2–45.9 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. This enclosure ships without a driver, so both coil variants the maker offers are plotted. They do not load the same box the same way.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 14.7 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 732–741 W unfiltered  →  784–803 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 4 8 12 16 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 14.7 mm 732 W reaches Xmax here
series · 741 W, no filterparallel · 732 W, no filterseries · 803 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octparallel · 784 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 14.7 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 14.7 mm. Unfiltered that is 732 W, reached first at 30 Hz. It sits above the 350 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 784 W before hitting the same 14.7 mm. That is 7 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

A dual 10 that sits 12 inches deep and 7.375 inches tall. At 2.4 inches of mounting depth the SW10 is the shallowest thing in this program, so the motor never sets the height; there is over 4 inches above each magnet.

Each chamber holds 0.551 cubic feet net, about 0.6 gross, which is Arc's optimum recommendation almost to the decimal. Per driver that is Qtc 0.844 with F3 at 45.9 Hz on Arc's series parameters.

Same honest note as always on this driver: Fs 39.3 Hz and a 12.96 liter Vas put F3 in the mid 40s. That is the cost of a 2.4 inch motor. If your install has clearance for a deeper driver, take one. If it does not, this is 700 watts RMS of dual 10 in a space nothing else fits.

One side-mounted cup feeds both positions in parallel. Set impedance at the drivers and wire both identically. Arc's series and parallel T/S are nearly identical, so the cabinet is right either way.

Questions

Why is this cabinet 41 inches wide instead of 30?

Because it is only 12 inches deep. The standard Performance Optimized Down Fire platform is 30 wide by 15 deep, and under a rear seat or on a narrow cargo floor there is often not 15 inches to give.

The airspace lost from the depth is recovered from the length, so the cabinet runs 41 inches instead of 30 and stands 7.375 inches tall, with each driver in its own separate chamber. If you do have 15 inches of depth, the standard 30 by 15 cabinet is the better pick.

How does this compare to the standard 30 x 15 dual SW10 enclosure?

The standard cabinet is 30 by 15 by 8 inches and gives each driver 0.55 cubic feet net. This one is 41 by 12 by 7.375 inches and gives each driver 0.551 cubic feet net. The height was solved to hold the same airspace as the standard box, so the alignment carries over.

The choice is about shape: the standard box if you have 15 inches of depth, this one when depth is the limit and you have 41 inches of run.

What alignment does each chamber produce?

In 0.551 cubic feet net per chamber the SW10 lands at Qtc 0.844 with Fc at 53.2 Hz and F3 at 45.9 Hz on Arc's series wiring parameters, and Qtc 0.863 with Fc at 53.1 Hz and F3 at 45.2 Hz on the parallel set.

The two are nearly identical, so the cabinet is correct whichever way you wire the coils. F3 in the mid 40s is the cost of a 2.4 inch motor, and cabin gain below 60 Hz does the rest in a vehicle.

How is this enclosure wired, and how do I set my final impedance?

One side-mounted terminal cup with a single pair of posts is pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC to both driver positions in parallel. Each SW10 is dual voice coil, in dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm, so the way you wire each driver's coils sets the load the amplifier sees. Wire both identically, since mismatched wiring between chambers splits power unevenly, and confirm the load against your amplifier's minimum stable impedance.

Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?

Side mounted, and there is one cup serving both chambers. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup, and on a down fire cabinet that keeps the connection accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since both baffles face the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC to both driver positions in parallel.

How is this enclosure built?

V-groove and dado joinery, CNC cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF, so every panel joint locks mechanically before adhesive is applied. The front baffle is a 1.5 inch double layer with the outer layer machined as a flush recess, and each driver lands on 8/32 threaded inserts with stainless machine screws. A full-height bonded 3/4 inch divider separates the two chambers and ties the walls together across the 41 inch span. Corners are square, the Down Fire series standard, which keeps the most internal volume for the footprint. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Do I need to add polyfill or damping?

No. Polyfill is already installed as a light wall lining in each chamber, and the quantity is chosen so it does not change the acoustic volume. Do not add more: packing a sealed box makes it behave as though it were larger, which walks the alignment away from the 0.551 cubic feet per chamber this cabinet was built to.

Are the Arc Audio SW10 subwoofers included with this enclosure?

No. This listing is for the enclosure only. Bring your own pair of Arc Audio SW10 subwoofers; the drivers are purchased separately. The cutout and mounting depth are direct fit at both positions, and the 1.75 inch feet ship uninstalled for an installed height of 9.125 inches.
