This enclosure holds 0.632 cu ft net per chamber. In it the JL Audio 10W6v3-D4 runs a system Qtc of 0.78 with half power at 41.9 Hz, and the cone reaches its 19.0 mm travel limit at 591 W, below the driver’s 600 W thermal rating, so travel is what stops you here, not heat. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 737 W — +145 W, or 25 percent more power for the same 19.0 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 55.5
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 D4 55.5
D4 · EBP 55.5
At 55.5 the 10W6v3-D4 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

02What the box does to it

0.632 cu ft against a 23.2 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 1.30  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 46 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.78
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +6 +0 -6 -12 -18 -24 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB
D4 · Qtc 0.78, Fc 46 Hz, F3 41.9 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 30.1 Hz free-air to 46 Hz and half power lands at 41.9 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 19.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 591 W unfiltered  →  737 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 4 8 12 16 20 24 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 19.0 mm 591 W reaches Xmax here
D4 · 591 W, no filterD4 · 737 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 19.0 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 19.0 mm. Unfiltered that is 591 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits under the 600 W the driver can take thermally, so the enclosure sets the ceiling, not the voice coil. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 737 W before hitting the same 19.0 mm. That is 25 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

19mm of one-way linear excursion, the highest Xmax figure in this program, and two of them in a cabinet 12 inches deep. This is the W6v3 dual for under a rear bench. With 15 inches of depth, the standard 30 by 15 is the better shape.

Height on this one is set by the motor, not the air. 6.89 inches of mounting depth, minus the 0.75 recovered by the flush-recess outer baffle layer, puts each motor 5.39 inches into the cabinet. Hold 0.75 above it and the cabinet is 8.4375 tall. On 41 by 12 that gives each chamber 0.632 net, more than the 0.58 the standard dual was built to.

More air lowers Qtc, which is the safe direction: Qtc 0.778, Fc 45.7 Hz, F3 41.9 Hz per driver. JL recommends 0.55 per driver, so we are on the better damped side of their own box, and still above 0.707.

JL's manual explicitly specifies 0.50 inches of pole-vent clearance behind the motor. This cabinet gives 0.80. Their requirement is met with room to spare on a driver with a vented pole this large.

Wiring uses JL's terminal jumper system. Both voice coils must be connected or the driver will not work. Factory configuration is parallel at 2 ohms per driver, series gives 8 ohms. Wire both identically. 1200 watts RMS across the pair.

Questions

Why is this dual cabinet 41 inches wide instead of 30?

Because it is only 12 inches deep. Our standard Performance Optimized Down Fire cabinet for this driver is 30 wide by 15 deep, and this one is built for spaces three inches shallower than that, typically under the rear seat of a truck or SUV or on a narrow cargo floor.

Airspace has to come from somewhere. Losing depth means recovering it along the length, so the cabinet runs 41 inches long and stands 8.4375 inches tall, and still keeps each driver in a properly sized separate chamber. If your space is wide and shallow rather than deep, this is the shape that works.

How does this compare to the standard 30 x 15 dual JL Audio 10W6v3 enclosure?

Same driver, different shape. The standard cabinet is 30 by 15 by 8.5625 inches and holds 0.58 cubic feet net per driver. This cabinet is 41 by 12 by 8.4375 inches and holds 0.632 cubic feet net per driver.

The wide cabinet holds more air because its height is set by the driver's mounting depth rather than by a volume target, and a larger sealed box runs a slightly lower Qtc, which is the safe direction. Choose on the space: with 15 inches of depth the standard cabinet is the pick; if depth stops at 12 inches and you have 41 inches of run, this one fits.

Does this cabinet match JL Audio's recommended enclosure?

Close, on the larger side. JL Audio recommends a 0.55 cubic foot sealed box per 10W6v3-D4, and each chamber here holds 0.632 cubic feet net because the driver's 6.89 inch mounting depth sets the cabinet height.

That gives Qtc 0.778, Fc 45.7 Hz, F3 41.9 Hz per driver. The extra air moves the alignment toward the better damped side of JL's box, which is the safe direction for a sealed enclosure.

How do I wire the W6v3 terminal jumper system?

The W6v3 uses a pair of main input push terminals plus four voice coil configuration tabs behind them. Both voice coils must be connected or the driver will produce no output and may be damaged; JL supplies the jumpers.

Parallel is the factory configuration and gives 2 ohms per driver, series gives 8 ohms. Set both drivers identically; the shared side-mounted cup is pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC to both positions in parallel, so the pair presents 1 ohm or 4 ohms. Verify that load against your amplifier's minimum stable impedance before powering the system.

How is the cabinet height determined on this build?

By driver depth. The 10W6v3-D4 mounts 6.89 inches deep; the flush-recess outer baffle layer recovers 0.75 inch, and we hold 0.75 inch above the motor, which exceeds the 0.50 inch pole-vent clearance JL Audio specifies. That sets the cabinet at 8.4375 inches tall with 0.80 inches above each motor.

The chamber divider runs vertically, so splitting the box into two chambers does not change the depth requirement at all.

Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?

Side mounted, and there is one cup serving both chambers rather than one per chamber. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup regardless of alignment, whether standard, wedge, or down fire. On this cabinet that keeps the connection fully accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since both baffles face the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals, and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.

How is this enclosure built?

V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF, with every joint machined to lock mechanically before adhesive goes on, which keeps both chambers airtight under sustained pressure cycling. The chamber divider is a full-height bonded 3/4 inch panel, which also ties the front and rear walls together across the 41 inch span.

Front baffles are a 1.5 inch double layer at both driver positions, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so each driver bolts to the inner layer. Corners are square, polyfill is installed as a light wall lining in each chamber, and the 1.75 inch standoffs ship uninstalled. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Are the JL Audio 10W6v3-D4 subwoofers included with this enclosure?

No. This listing is for the enclosure only. Bring your own pair of JL Audio 10W6v3-D4 subwoofers. The cutouts, mounting depth and pole-vent clearance are cut specifically for this driver at both positions.
