This enclosure holds 0.464 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Wavtech thinPRO10 runs a system Qtc of 0.79–0.83 with half power at 40.9–44.0 Hz, and the cone reaches its 20.0 mm travel limit at 1150 W, above the driver’s 750 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 1329 W — +179 W, or 16 percent more power for the same 20.0 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 50.0–54.2
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 4 54.2 2 50.0
4 · EBP 54.22 · EBP 50.0
At 50.0–54.2 the thinPRO10 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

02What the box does to it

0.464 cu ft against a 17.0 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 1.29  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 47–48 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.79–0.83
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +6 +0 -6 -12 -18 -24 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB
4 · Qtc 0.79, Fc 48 Hz, F3 44.0 Hz2 · Qtc 0.83, Fc 47 Hz, F3 40.9 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 31.0–32.0 Hz free-air to 47–48 Hz and half power lands at 40.9–44.0 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. This enclosure ships without a driver, so both coil variants the maker offers are plotted. They do not load the same box the same way.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 20.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 1150–1180 W unfiltered  →  1329–1399 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 8 16 24 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 20.0 mm 1150 W reaches Xmax here
4 · 1180 W, no filter2 · 1150 W, no filter4 · 1399 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct2 · 1329 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 20.0 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 20.0 mm. Unfiltered that is 1150 W, reached first at 25 Hz. It sits above the 750 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 1329 W before hitting the same 20.0 mm. That is 16 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

This box exists for one reason: the space under a rear bench is 12 inches deep and a 15 inch cabinet does not go in it. The thinPRO10 already mounts in 2.875 inches, so height was never its problem. Depth was.

Height here is set by the driver, not by a volume target. Wāvtech specifies no rear clearance behind this motor, but we still hold 0.75 inch above it, and that puts the cabinet at 4.375 inches. On a 41 by 12 footprint that height holds 0.464 net, more than the 0.40 the standard 30 by 15 cabinet was built to. More air lowers Qtc, which is the safe direction.

Qtc 0.833, Fc 47.0 Hz, F3 40.9 Hz on the -2 and Qtc 0.788, Fc 48.5 Hz, F3 44.0 Hz on the -4. That is a touch more damped than Wāvtech's own 0.35 target alignment, and on a sealed shallow that is the right side to miss on.

Coil choice is simple since both are single voice coil. The -2 is 2 ohms, the -4 is 4 ohms, set by which model you buy rather than by wiring. The -2 has slightly lower Fs at 31 Hz and reaches about 3 Hz deeper; the -4 is marginally better damped.

Sensitivity is 81 to 82 dB, which is low. That is the cost of the excursion and the depth. Wāvtech recommends 250 to 750 watts and I would run the top half of that. The standoffs add 1.75, so plan around 6.125 inches of stack.

Questions

Why is this cabinet 41 inches wide instead of 30?

Because it is only 12 inches deep. Our standard Performance Optimized Down Fire cabinet for this driver is 30 wide by 15 deep, and this one is built for spaces three inches shallower than that, typically under the rear seat of a truck or SUV or on a narrow cargo floor.

Airspace has to come from somewhere. Losing depth means recovering it along the length, so the cabinet runs 41 inches long and stands 4.375 inches tall, and the driver still gets a properly sized chamber. If your space is wide and shallow rather than deep, this is the shape that works.

How does this compare to the standard 30 x 15 thinPRO10 enclosure?

Same driver, different shape. The standard cabinet is 30 by 15 by 4.25 inches and holds 0.40 cubic feet net. This cabinet is 41 by 12 by 4.375 inches and holds 0.464 cubic feet net.

The wide cabinet holds more air because its height is set by the driver's mounting depth rather than by a volume target, and a larger sealed box runs a slightly lower Qtc, which is the safe direction. Choose on the space: with 15 inches of depth the standard cabinet is the pick; if depth stops at 12 inches and you have 41 inches of run, this one fits.

Should I choose the thinPRO10-2 or the thinPRO10-4?

Both are single voice coil, so the impedance is fixed by which model you buy: 2 ohms for the -2, 4 ohms for the -4. Start by checking what load your amplifier is stable and efficient into.

Acoustically they are close. In this cabinet the -2 lands at Qtc 0.833, Fc 47.0 Hz, F3 40.9 Hz, and the -4 lands at Qtc 0.788, Fc 48.5 Hz, F3 44.0 Hz, marginally better damped but about 3 Hz shallower. Both carry the same 750 watt RMS rating and the same 20mm of excursion.

Why is this cabinet taller than the standard thinPRO cabinet?

Because its height is set by the driver's mounting depth plus the 0.75 inch of clearance we hold above the motor, rather than by a volume target. Wāvtech specifies no rear clearance for this driver, but the wide cabinet keeps our standard clearance and stands 4.375 inches tall.

On a 41 by 12 footprint that height holds 0.464 cubic feet net, more than the 0.40 the standard cabinet holds. More air in a sealed box lowers Qtc, which is the safe direction.

How much power should I run to this subwoofer?

Wāvtech rates the thinPRO10 at 750 watts RMS with 2250 watts peak, and recommends 250 to 750 watts of amplifier power. Aim for the upper half of that range.

Sensitivity is 81 dB on the -2 and 82 dB on the -4, which is low. That is the tradeoff for packing a 4.5 inch coil and 20mm of excursion into a 2.875 inch frame, and underpowering this driver leaves significant output unused.

Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?

Side mounted. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup regardless of alignment, whether standard, wedge, or down fire. On this cabinet that keeps the connection fully accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since the baffle faces the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals, and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.

How is this enclosure built?

V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF, with every joint machined to lock mechanically before adhesive goes on, which keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling. A windowed U-brace ties the front and rear walls together across the 41 inch span.

The front baffle is a 1.5 inch double layer, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so the driver bolts to the inner layer. Corners are square, polyfill is installed as a light wall lining, and the 1.75 inch standoffs ship uninstalled. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Is the Wavtech thinPRO10 subwoofer included with this enclosure?

No. This listing is for the enclosure only. Bring your own Wāvtech thinPRO10-2 or thinPRO10-4. The cutout and mounting depth are direct fit for either version.
