This enclosure holds 0.557 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Arc Audio SW10D2 runs a system Qtc of 0.84–0.86 with half power at 45.1–45.9 Hz, and the cone reaches its 14.7 mm travel limit at 726 W, above the driver’s 350 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 780 W — +54 W, or 7 percent more power for the same 14.7 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 53.0–54.4
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 series 54.4 parallel 53.0
series · EBP 54.4parallel · EBP 53.0
At 53.0–54.4 the SW10D2 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

02What the box does to it

0.557 cu ft against a 13.0 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 0.82  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 53 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.84–0.86

series · Qtc 0.84, Fc 53 Hz, F3 45.9 Hzparallel · Qtc 0.86, Fc 53 Hz, F3 45.1 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 39.3 Hz free-air to 53 Hz and half power lands at 45.1–45.9 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. This enclosure ships without a driver, so both coil variants the maker offers are plotted. They do not load the same box the same way.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 14.7 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 726–736 W unfiltered  →  780–798 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 4 8 12 16 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 14.7 mm 726 W reaches Xmax here
series · 736 W, no filterparallel · 726 W, no filterseries · 798 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octparallel · 780 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 14.7 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 14.7 mm. Unfiltered that is 726 W, reached first at 30 Hz. It sits above the 350 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 780 W before hitting the same 14.7 mm. That is 7 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

This box exists for one reason: the space under a rear bench is 12 inches deep and a 15 inch cabinet does not go in it. The SW10 already mounts in 2.4 inches, 2.25 front loaded, so height was never its problem. Depth was.

With the footprint fixed at 41 by 12, height is the only free dimension, and it was solved to the airspace rather than picked. 4.8125 inches puts the chamber at 0.599 gross, on Arc's published 0.6 gross optimum, which is 0.557 net after the brace and the driver. Arc publishes gross rather than net, unlike most brands, so compare carefully. The motor clears the top panel by 1.66 inches, so airspace set the height here, not clearance.

Arc publishes full T/S for series and parallel wiring and the two are nearly identical, so one cabinet serves both. Series lands at Qtc 0.842 and F3 45.9 Hz. Parallel lands at Qtc 0.861 and F3 45.1 Hz. That is a controlled, usable alignment, not a shallow driver stuck underdamped.

The honest tradeoff is the same as the standard box. A 39.3 Hz Fs and a 12.96 liter Vas are the price of a 2.4 inch motor, and they put F3 in the mid 40s. Cabin gain does real work below 50 Hz and this driver leans on it. If you have the room for a deeper driver, take one. If you have 12 inches of depth and five of height, this is the driver that fits.

350 watts RMS, 700 peak. Dual voice coil in 2 ohm or 4 ohm, final impedance set at the driver. The standoffs add 1.75, so plan around 6.5625 inches of stack.

Questions

Why is this cabinet 41 inches wide instead of 30?

Because it is only 12 inches deep. Our standard Performance Optimized Down Fire cabinet for this driver is 30 wide by 15 deep, and this one is built for spaces three inches shallower than that, typically under the rear seat of a truck or SUV or on a narrow cargo floor.

Airspace has to come from somewhere. Losing depth means recovering it along the length, so the cabinet runs 41 inches long and stands 4.8125 inches tall, and the driver still gets a properly sized chamber. If your space is wide and shallow rather than deep, this is the shape that works.

How does this compare to the standard 30 x 15 Arc Audio SW10 enclosure?

Same driver, different shape. The standard cabinet is 30 by 15 by 5.0625 inches and holds 0.55 cubic feet net. This cabinet is 41 by 12 by 4.8125 inches and holds 0.557 cubic feet net.

That is effectively the same airspace, so acoustically the two are interchangeable. Choose on the space: with 15 inches of depth the standard cabinet is the pick; if depth stops at 12 inches and you have 41 inches of run, this one fits.

Does it matter whether I wire the voice coils in series or parallel?

Not for the enclosure alignment. Arc publishes full Thiele-Small data for both configurations and the two are nearly identical: Fs 39.3 Hz series against 39.0 parallel, Qts 0.624 against 0.634, Vas 12.96 against 13.33 liters.

In this cabinet series wiring lands at Qtc 0.842, Fc 53.1 Hz, F3 45.9 Hz and parallel at Qtc 0.861, Fc 53.0 Hz, F3 45.1 Hz. Choose your wiring based purely on what impedance your amplifier is stable and efficient into.

Why does this page list gross volume alongside net?

Because Arc Audio publishes its sealed recommendations as gross volume rather than net, which is unusual. Most manufacturers state net, the airspace left after the driver's displacement is subtracted. We built this cabinet to 0.599 cubic feet gross to sit on Arc's published 0.6 gross optimum, which is 0.557 cubic feet net after the brace and the driver's estimated 0.037 cubic feet of displacement (Arc publishes none). Both figures appear in the specifications so you can compare against either convention.

Why is the F3 higher than a deeper 10 would give?

Because of the driver's free-air resonance and compliance, and both are the direct cost of a 2.4 inch mounting depth. The SW10 has an Fs of 39.3 Hz and a Vas of 12.96 liters, so predicted F3 in this cabinet is 45.9 Hz in series and 45.1 Hz in parallel.

Drivers that reach into the low 30s carry deeper motors and more compliance, and they need more mounting depth to do it. If your install has the clearance for a deeper driver, take one. If it does not, the SW10 delivers a properly damped, controlled alignment in a space nothing else fits, and cabin gain fills in below 50 Hz.

Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?

Side mounted. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup regardless of alignment, whether standard, wedge, or down fire. On this cabinet that keeps the connection fully accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since the baffle faces the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals, and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.

How is this enclosure built?

V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF, with every joint machined to lock mechanically before adhesive goes on, which keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling. A windowed U-brace ties the front and rear walls together across the 41 inch span.

The front baffle is a 1.5 inch double layer, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so the driver bolts to the inner layer. Corners are square, polyfill is installed as a light wall lining, and the 1.75 inch standoffs ship uninstalled. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Is the Arc Audio SW10 subwoofer included with this enclosure?

No. This listing is for the enclosure only. Bring your own Arc Audio SW10 in either dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm. The cutout and mounting depth are direct fit for either version.
