This enclosure holds 0.801 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Arc Audio A10 runs a system Qtc of 0.80–0.85 with half power at 39.0–40.6 Hz, and the cone reaches its 8.0 mm travel limit at 87 W, below the driver’s 250 W thermal rating, so travel is what stops you here, not heat. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 103 W — +16 W, or 18 percent more power for the same 8.0 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 49.4–52.8
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 D2 52.8 D4 49.4
D2 · EBP 52.8D4 · EBP 49.4
The A10 straddles the boundary at 49.4–52.8 depending on coil — part sealed-band, part transition. Either way it takes a sealed load happily; the coil you run shifts the alignment more than it shifts this verdict.

02What the box does to it

0.801 cu ft against a 40.4 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 1.78  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 45–46 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.80–0.85
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +6 +0 -6 -12 -18 -24 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB
D2 · Qtc 0.80, Fc 45 Hz, F3 40.6 HzD4 · Qtc 0.85, Fc 46 Hz, F3 39.0 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 27.0 Hz free-air to 45–46 Hz and half power lands at 39.0–40.6 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. None

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 8.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 87–89 W unfiltered  →  103–107 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 4 8 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 8.0 mm 87 W reaches Xmax here
D2 · 87 W, no filterD4 · 89 W, no filterD2 · 107 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octD4 · 103 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 8.0 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 8.0 mm. Unfiltered that is 87 W, reached first at 21 Hz. It sits under the 250 W the driver can take thermally, so the enclosure sets the ceiling, not the voice coil. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 103 W before hitting the same 8.0 mm. That is 18 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

This is the A10 box for people who do not have 15 inches of depth. Same driver, same airspace as our standard 30 by 15, laid out 41 long and 12 deep so it goes under a rear bench.

The A10's headline number is a 26.995 Hz free-air resonance. For a 10 that mounts in 3.77 inches, that is unusual enough to be worth pausing on. Qts is moderate too, 0.477 on the D2 and 0.506 on the D4, so this driver has real options in a sealed box.

Arc publishes their sealed recommendations as gross volume, not net. We built this cabinet to 0.848 gross to land on their optimum, which puts net at 0.801. In it the D2 lands at Qtc 0.796 with F3 40.6 Hz and the D4 at Qtc 0.853 with F3 39.0 Hz. Both are controlled, usable alignments.

Height is 5.875 inches, set by the airspace. The motor clears the top panel by 1.355 inches, so there was room to spare. Add 1.75 for the feet and plan around 7.625 inches installed.

Power handling is 250 watts RMS with 500 musical. Arc is conservative with their RMS rating and direct about it: sustained operation above it cooks a voice coil. Dual voice coil in 2 ohm or 4 ohm; set your final impedance at the driver.

Questions

Why is this cabinet 41 inches wide instead of 30?

Because it is only 12 inches deep. The standard Performance Optimized Down Fire cabinet for the Arc Audio A10 is 30 wide by 15 deep, and this version is for spaces 3 inches shallower than that, under a rear bench or on a narrow cargo floor.

Airspace has to come from somewhere. Losing depth means recovering it along the length, so the cabinet runs 41 inches long and stands 5.875 inches tall. If you have 15 inches of depth, the standard cabinet is shorter in length and is the better pick; if you have 12 inches of depth and 41 inches of run, this is the shape that works.

How does this compare to the standard 30 x 15 Arc Audio A10 enclosure?

Same driver, different shape. The standard cabinet is 30 by 15 by 6.25 inches and was built to 0.80 cubic feet net. This cabinet is 41 by 12 by 5.875 inches and holds 0.801 cubic feet net.

The airspace is essentially the same, within about a hundredth of a cubic foot, so the two behave the same way. The choice is about the space you have: the standard box is deeper and shorter in length, this one is long and shallow.

Why does this page list gross volume when other enclosures list net?

Because Arc Audio publishes their sealed enclosure recommendations as gross volume rather than net, which is unusual. Most manufacturers state net volume, the airspace remaining after the driver's own displacement is subtracted.

We built this cabinet to 0.848 cubic feet gross to land on Arc's published gross optimum, which works out to 0.801 cubic feet net after the A10's estimated 0.04 cubic feet of displacement (Arc publishes none). Both figures appear in the specifications so you can compare against either convention.

Should I choose the A10D2 or the A10D4?

They are close in this cabinet. The A10D2 has a Qts of 0.477 and lands at Qtc 0.796 with F3 at 40.6 Hz. The A10D4 has a Qts of 0.506 and lands at Qtc 0.853 with F3 at 39.0 Hz, slightly less damped but reaching a little lower.

The D4 also has more motor force, 18.090 T against the D2's 13.766. Both are 250 watts RMS with the same 8mm Xmax and identical fitment. Choose based on what load your amplifier is stable and efficient into.

How much power should I run to this subwoofer?

Arc rates the A10 at 250 watts RMS continuous with 500 watts musical. Their documentation is direct about what happens above that: sustained operation beyond the RMS rating will burn the voice coil, and that damage is considered abuse rather than a warranty claim.

Arc also notes that underpowering is not a risk, but a small amplifier driven into clipping is. Feed it clean, unclipped power in the 200 to 250 watt range. Both variants are dual voice coil, so set the final load at the driver and confirm it against your amplifier's minimum stable impedance.

Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?

Side mounted. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup regardless of alignment, whether standard, wedge, or down fire. On this cabinet that keeps the connection fully accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since the baffle faces the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals, and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.

How is this enclosure built?

V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks the panels before adhesive is applied, which keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling. A windowed U-brace, dadoed to the shell, ties the long walls together across the 41 inch span. The front baffle is a double layer at 1.5 inches, two bonded 3/4 inch sheets with the outer layer machined as a flush recess. Polyfill is installed as a light wall lining. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Is the Arc Audio A10 subwoofer included with this enclosure?

No. This listing is for the enclosure only. Bring your own Arc Audio A10D2 or A10D4. The cutout and mounting depth are direct fit for either version, and the feet ship uninstalled in the box.
