This enclosure holds 1.405 cu ft net . In it the Skar Audio EVL-10 runs a system Qtc of 0.64–0.67 with half power at 51.5–53.3 Hz, and the cone reaches its 23.5 mm travel limit at 1591 W, above the driver’s 1000 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 2297 W — +705 W, or 44 percent more power for the same 23.5 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 65.2–66.7
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 dual 2 ohm 66.7 dual 4 ohm 65.2
dual 2 ohm · EBP 66.7dual 4 ohm · EBP 65.2
At 65.2–66.7 the EVL-10 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

02What the box does to it

1.405 cu ft against a 6.8 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 0.17  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 48–49 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.64–0.67
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +6 +0 -6 -12 -18 -24 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB
dual 2 ohm · Qtc 0.64, Fc 48 Hz, F3 53.3 Hzdual 4 ohm · Qtc 0.67, Fc 49 Hz, F3 51.5 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 44.0–45.0 Hz free-air to 48–49 Hz and half power lands at 51.5–53.3 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. Figures are Skar Audio’s published EVL-10 parameters from its product page. Driver displacement is not published; 0.092 cubic feet is an estimate. One cabinet serves both coils; both are plotted.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 23.5 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 1591–1690 W unfiltered  →  2297–2319 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 8 16 24 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 23.5 mm 1591 W reaches Xmax here
dual 2 ohm · 1591 W, no filterdual 4 ohm · 1690 W, no filterdual 2 ohm · 2297 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octdual 4 ohm · 2319 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 23.5 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 23.5 mm. Unfiltered that is 1591 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits above the 1000 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 2297 W before hitting the same 23.5 mm. That is 44 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

Measure the installed height, not the cabinet height. The box is 8.6875 tall on its own and the standoffs add 1.75, so plan around 10.4375 inches of stack on the 41 by 12 footprint.

The 7.16 inch motor sets this cabinet's height, not a volume target. With 0.75 above the motor the wide box holds 1.405 cubic feet net, more than the 1.28 the standard box was built to. That lands the D2 at Qtc 0.638 and the D4 at 0.669. More air, lower Qtc: the safe direction, and it is a clearance fact, not a tuning choice.

Cut is 9.39, Skar's own figure. Inserts ship in the kit, not pressed: Skar prints no bolt circle. Mark from the driver, drill, press. It is sealed, so leave the polyfill as it is and run it at 1000 watts or under.

Questions

Why is this cabinet 41 inches wide instead of 30?

Because it is only 12 inches deep. The standard Performance Optimized Down Fire cabinet for the Skar Audio EVL-10 is 30 wide by 15 deep, and this version is for spaces 3 inches shallower than that, under a rear bench or on a narrow cargo floor.

Airspace has to come from somewhere. Losing depth means recovering it along the length, so the cabinet runs 41 inches long and stands 8.6875 inches tall. If you have 15 inches of depth, the standard cabinet is shorter in length and is the better pick; if you have 12 inches of depth and 41 inches of run, this is the shape that works.

How does this compare to the standard 30 x 15 Skar Audio EVL-10 enclosure?

Same driver, different shape. The standard cabinet is 30 by 15 by 8.66 inches and was built to 1.28 cubic feet net. This cabinet is 41 by 12 by 8.6875 inches and holds 1.405 cubic feet net.

The wide box holds more air because its height is set by the EVL-10's 7.16 inch motor, not by a volume target. More air behind the same driver lowers Qtc: here the D2 reads 0.638 and the D4 0.669. The choice between the two boxes is the space you have.

Does this fit the Skar EVL-10, and will any other 10 inch fit?

The EVL-10, yes, in either coil. The baffle is cut to 9.39 in, Skar's published cutout, under the 10.89 in frame, and the 7.16 inch motor clears the top panel with 0.777 inch to spare.

Any other 10, no. The airspace is worked out from the EVL-10's own Qts and Vas, and a different woofer that happened to drop into the hole would not see the alignment printed on this page.

Why 1.405 cubic feet, and what alignment does it give?

Height on this cabinet is set by the driver's mounting depth, not by a volume target. The motor needs 0.75 inch of clearance above it inside the cabinet, and at that height the 41 by 12 footprint holds 1.405 cubic feet net, more than the 1.28 the standard box was built to. More air behind the same driver lowers Qtc, which is the safe direction.

The EVL-10 D2 reads Qtc 0.638, Fc 47.6 Hz, F3 53.3 Hz and the D4 reads Qtc 0.669, Fc 48.5 Hz, F3 51.5 Hz. Skar's numbers are the only published source for this driver, so treat the Qtc as good to a few hundredths.

What amplifier power should I run, and how should I wire it?

Skar rates the EVL-10 at 1000 watts RMS. The D2 wires to 4 ohms with its coils in series or 1 ohm in parallel; the D4 wires to 8 ohms in series or 2 ohms in parallel. Anything under 1 ohm, and many amplifiers at 1 ohm, is outside what the amplifier is built for, so series wiring is the safe default. Confirm your amplifier's minimum stable impedance first.

How tall is this once the standoffs are on?

The cabinet is 8.6875 inches tall measured in the down fire position, and that figure excludes the standoffs. The standoffs hold 1.75 inches under the baffle, so plan your space around a finished stack of 10.4375 inches on a 41 by 12 inch footprint.

Do I need to add polyfill or damping?

No. Polyfill is already installed as a light wall lining to control internal reflections, and the quantity is chosen so it does not change the acoustic volume. Do not add more: packing a sealed box with fill makes it behave as though it were larger, which walks the alignment away from the 1.405 cubic feet this cabinet was built to.

Is the driver included, and are the threaded inserts installed?

No driver. This is an enclosure only. You receive the cabinet finished in plush black carpet, one side-mounted pre-wired terminal cup, the polyfill lining already in place, the standoffs, and a threaded insert kit with stainless machine screws.

The inserts ship loose on purpose: Skar prints no bolt circle for the EVL-10, so you set the driver in the recess, mark its holes, drill and press the inserts. Bring your own EVL-10.
