This enclosure holds 1.28 cu ft net . In it the Skar Audio EVL-10 runs a system Qtc of 0.64–0.67 with half power at 51.4–53.2 Hz, and the cone reaches its 23.5 mm travel limit at 1626 W, above the driver’s 1000 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 2322 W — +696 W, or 43 percent more power for the same 23.5 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 65.2–66.7
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 dual 2 ohm 66.7 dual 4 ohm 65.2
dual 2 ohm · EBP 66.7dual 4 ohm · EBP 65.2
At 65.2–66.7 the EVL-10 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

02What the box does to it

1.28 cu ft against a 6.8 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 0.19  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 48–49 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.64–0.67
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +6 +0 -6 -12 -18 -24 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB
dual 2 ohm · Qtc 0.64, Fc 48 Hz, F3 53.2 Hzdual 4 ohm · Qtc 0.67, Fc 49 Hz, F3 51.4 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 44.0–45.0 Hz free-air to 48–49 Hz and half power lands at 51.4–53.2 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. Figures are Skar Audio’s published EVL-10 parameters from its product page. Driver displacement is not published; 0.092 cubic feet is an estimate. One cabinet serves both coils; both are plotted.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 23.5 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 1626–1728 W unfiltered  →  2322–2346 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 8 16 24 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 23.5 mm 1626 W reaches Xmax here
dual 2 ohm · 1626 W, no filterdual 4 ohm · 1728 W, no filterdual 2 ohm · 2322 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octdual 4 ohm · 2346 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 23.5 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 23.5 mm. Unfiltered that is 1626 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits above the 1000 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 2322 W before hitting the same 23.5 mm. That is 43 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

Measure the installed height, not the cabinet height. The box is 8.66 tall on its own and the standoffs add 1.75, so plan around 10.41 inches of stack on the 30 by 15 footprint.

The 7.16 inch motor sets this cabinet's height, not the airspace, so it lands at 1.28 cubic feet and Qtc 0.64 on the D2. That is a clearance fact, not a tuning choice.

Cut is 9.39, Skar's own figure. Inserts ship in the kit, not pressed: Skar prints no bolt circle. Mark from the driver, drill, press. It is sealed, so leave the polyfill as it is and run it at 1000 watts or under.

Questions

Does this fit the Skar EVL-10, and will any other 10 inch fit?

The EVL-10, yes, in either coil. The baffle is cut to 9.39 in, Skar's published cutout, under the 10.89 in frame. The 7.16 inch motor clears the cabinet with 0.75 inch to spare. One cabinet serves both coils: the EVL-10 D2 reads Qtc 0.643 with half power at 53.2 Hz, and the D4 reads Qtc 0.673 at 51.4 Hz.

Any other 10, no. The airspace is worked out from the EVL-10's own Qts and Vas, and a different woofer that happened to drop into the hole would not see the alignment printed on this page.

Why 1.28 cubic feet?

Because the EVL-10's 7.16 inch mounting depth sets the minimum cabinet height on the 30 by 15 platform, not the target volume. The motor reaches 5.66 inches into the cavity and needs 0.75 inch above it, which puts the cabinet at 8.66 inches tall and the airspace at 1.28 cubic feet.

The result is Qtc 0.643 with half power at 53.2 Hz on the D2: a gentle rolloff rather than a flat one. One cabinet serves both coils: the EVL-10 D2 reads Qtc 0.643 with half power at 53.2 Hz, and the D4 reads Qtc 0.673 at 51.4 Hz.

What amplifier power should I run, and how should I wire it?

Skar rates the EVL-10 at 1000 watts RMS, so target 700 to 1000 watts RMS at the final load.

The EVL-10 D2 wires to 4 ohms with its coils in series or 1 ohm in parallel. The EVL-10 D4 wires to 8 ohms in series or 2 ohms in parallel. Anything under 1 ohm, and many amplifiers at 1 ohm, is outside what the amplifier is built for; series wiring is the safe default. Confirm your amplifier's minimum stable impedance first.

How tall is this once the standoffs are on?

The cabinet is 8.66 inches tall measured in the down fire position, and that figure excludes the standoffs. The standoffs hold 1.75 inches under the baffle, so plan your space around a finished stack of roughly 10.41 inches.

The footprint is the standard Performance Optimized down fire platform, 30.00 inches wide by 15.00 deep. Height is the only dimension solved to the driver, and here it is the EVL-10's 7.16 inch motor that sets it.

Why is the front baffle double-layered?

The baffle is two bonded 3/4 inch sheets, 1.5 inches through. A single 3/4 inch panel flexes under the pressure a 10 inch woofer puts on it at 1000 watts, which smears output and works the driver loose over time; the second layer stiffens the face and gives the mounting hardware twice the material to bite.

The outer layer is machined as a flush recess to the 10.89 inch frame, so the driver bolts to the inner layer.

What is the expected low-frequency extension?

Anechoic F3 is 53.2 Hz on the D2, with system resonance at 48.0 Hz. Below Qtc 0.707 the rolloff is gentle and F3 sits above fc, which is what a damped sealed box does.

Those figures exclude cabin gain. In a car the cabin's transfer function adds real output below 50 Hz, so in-vehicle response runs deeper than the numbers above.

Do I need to add polyfill or damping?

No. Polyfill is already installed as a light wall lining to control internal reflections, and the quantity is chosen so it does not change the acoustic volume.

Do not add more. Packing a sealed box with fill makes it behave as though it were larger, which walks the alignment away from the 1.28 cubic feet this cabinet was built to.

Is the driver included, and are the threaded inserts installed?

No driver. This is an enclosure only. You receive the cabinet finished in plush black carpet, one side-mounted pre-wired terminal cup, the polyfill lining already in place, the standoffs, and a threaded insert kit with stainless machine screws.

The inserts ship loose on purpose: Skar prints no bolt circle for the EVL-10, so you set the driver in the recess, mark its holes, drill and press the inserts. The Skar EVL-10 is purchased separately, and the cabinet is cut direct fit to it, not a general purpose 10 inch box.
