This enclosure holds 0.90 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Audiomobile Encore 4412 runs a system Qtc of 0.77 with half power at 44.0 Hz, and the cone reaches its 19.1 mm travel limit at 1086 W, above the driver’s 1000 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 1343 W — +257 W, or 24 percent more power for the same 19.1 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 59.5
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 4412, dual 4 ohm coils in parallel 59.5
4412, dual 4 ohm coils in parallel · EBP 59.5
At 59.5 the Encore 12 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

02What the box does to it

0.90 cu ft against a 30.1 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 1.18  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 47 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.77

4412, dual 4 ohm coils in parallel · Qtc 0.77, Fc 47 Hz, F3 44.0 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 32.0 Hz free-air to 47 Hz and half power lands at 44.0 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. Figures are from Audiomobile’s own Encore Series sheet, measured with the two 4 ohm coils in parallel. 0.90 cubic feet is a little under the 1.23 cubic foot Butterworth box, so the 4412 sits at Qtc 0.77: a touch of punch above maximally flat, inside Audiomobile’s own sealed range and above the 0.8 cubic foot minimum on its sheet. Each chamber of this dual holds 0.90 cubic feet, so per driver it is the single wedge twice over.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 19.1 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 1086 W unfiltered  →  1343 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 4 8 12 16 20 24 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 19.1 mm 1086 W reaches Xmax here
4412, dual 4 ohm coils in parallel · 1086 W, no filter4412, dual 4 ohm coils in parallel · 1343 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 19.1 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 19.1 mm. Unfiltered that is 1086 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits above the 1000 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 1343 W before hitting the same 19.1 mm. That is 24 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

Built a little under the Encore 4412's 1.23 cubic foot Butterworth volume on purpose, 0.90 cubic feet per chamber for Qtc 0.77. It reads punchy rather than flat by about a decibel and keeps the wedge narrow.

Inserts ship in the kit, not pressed: Audiomobile publishes no hole pattern for the Encore. Mark from the driver, drill, press. If we get the hole locations later this changes to pre-installed.

Two chambers at 0.90 each, 32.00 inches wide, 16 tall, 14.28 at the base. Wire the pair identically; all four coils in parallel is 1 ohm, the mixed arrangements give 4.

Audiomobile's Klippel sheet and the dealer spec tables disagree on this driver. The sheet reproduces its own moving mass from its compliance and is what this cabinet is built to; say so if a customer brings the other numbers.

Polyfill is already in as a wall lining. Adding more makes the box act larger and walks the alignment off the volume it was built to.

Questions

Does this fit the Audiomobile Encore 4412, and will any other 12 inch fit?

The Encore 4412, yes: the baffle is cut to Audiomobile's 11.00 inch cutout, the recess to its 12.65 inch frame, and the raked rear panel clears the 4.9 inch motor with 3.07 inch to spare. The Encore ships in one version, dual 4 ohm, so there is no coil variant to choose. Run two of them so the chambers match.

Any other 12, no. The airspace is engineered around the Encore 4412's 0.518 Qts and 30.12 liters of Vas, and a different woofer that happened to drop into the hole would not see the alignment printed on this page.

Why 0.90 cubic feet per chamber, and what alignment does it target?

0.90 cubic feet sits inside Audiomobile's 0.7 to 1.25 cubic feet sealed range and above the 0.8 cubic foot minimum on its sheet. Computed from Audiomobile's published Fs 32.0 Hz, Qts 0.518 and Vas 30.12 liters it gives system Qtc 0.765, resonance 47.3 Hz and an anechoic half-power point of 44.0 Hz.

The maximally flat Butterworth box for this driver would be 1.23 cubic feet. This cabinet is built a little smaller on purpose: Qtc 0.77 adds at most 0.1 dB of punch around resonance without giving up extension, and keeps the wedge to a trunk-friendly 32.00 inches wide.

What amplifier power should I run, and how should I wire it?

Audiomobile rates the Encore 4412 at 1000 watts RMS per driver and 2000 watts maximum, so target 700 to 1000 watts RMS per driver at the final impedance. Each driver carries two 4 ohm coils: parallel for 2 ohms (1.68 ohms DC, the way Audiomobile measured it), series for 8 ohms.

Wire both drivers identically so the chambers share power evenly. Both drivers in parallel and the pair paralleled is 1 ohm, which needs an amplifier rated for it; either mixed arrangement, parallel within and series across or series within and parallel across, gives 4 ohms and is the safe answer on any amplifier.

Why the wedge angle, and why rear-firing into the trunk?

The seat-side face carries a 20 degree rake that matches the lean of a factory rear seat back, so the cabinet sits flush against it and the cargo space in front stays usable. The baffle is the vertical trunk-lid-side face, so the drivers fire rearward into the trunk cavity.

The trunk acts as an acoustic extension for the sealed box, and the cabin's transfer function adds real output below 50 Hz, so in-vehicle response runs deeper than the anechoic 44.0 Hz on this page.

Why two separate chambers instead of one shared volume?

Two drivers sharing one sealed volume load each other: each driver's compression stroke becomes the pressure the other works against, which smears transients and blurs the alignment either would have alone. A bonded full-height 3/4 inch divider gives each driver its own 0.90 cubic feet and its own polyfill.

It also means a failure in one driver does not unload the other, and the alignment on this page is the alignment in each chamber, not an average across a shared box.

What is the expected low-frequency extension?

Anechoic F3 is 44.0 Hz per chamber with system resonance at 47.3 Hz. At Qtc 0.77 the response carries a slight 0.1 dB lift near resonance and F3 sits just below fc, the classic punchy sealed alignment.

Those figures exclude cabin gain. In a car the transfer function of the cabin adds real output below 50 Hz, so in-vehicle response runs deeper than the numbers above. Audiomobile's sheet publishes no in-box F3 for this driver.

Do I need to add polyfill or damping?

No. Polyfill is already installed in both chambers as a light wall lining to control internal reflections, and the quantity is chosen so it does not change the acoustic volume.

Do not add more. Packing a sealed box with fill makes it behave as though it were larger, which walks the alignment away from the 0.90 cubic feet per chamber this cabinet was built to.

Is the driver included, and are the threaded inserts installed?

No driver. This is an enclosure only. You receive the cabinet finished in plush black carpet with the gloss black acrylic baffle insert, one side-mounted pre-wired terminal cup to both positions, the polyfill lining already in place, and the threaded insert kit with stainless machine screws.

The inserts ship loose on purpose: Audiomobile publishes no mounting hole locations for the Encore, so you set the driver in the recess, mark its holes, drill and press the inserts. The pair of Audiomobile Encore 4412 is purchased separately, and the cabinet is cut direct fit to it, not a general purpose 12 inch box.
