This enclosure holds 1.676 cu ft net . In it the Morel Ultimo Ti SC122 / SC124 runs a system Qtc of 0.62–0.70 with half power at 43.2–49.1 Hz, and the cone reaches its 9.5 mm travel limit at 116 W, below the driver’s 600 W thermal rating, so travel is what stops you here, not heat. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 172 W — +56 W, or 49 percent more power for the same 9.5 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 46.6–56.0
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 SC122 46.6 SC124 56.0
SC122 · EBP 46.6SC124 · EBP 56.0
The Ti SC 12 straddles the boundary at 46.6–56.0 depending on coil — part sealed-band, part transition. Either way it takes a sealed load happily; the coil you run shifts the alignment more than it shifts this verdict.

02What the box does to it

1.676 cu ft against a 68.9 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 1.45  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 42–43 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.62–0.70
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +6 +0 -6 -12 -18 -24 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB
SC122 · Qtc 0.70, Fc 43 Hz, F3 43.2 HzSC124 · Qtc 0.62, Fc 42 Hz, F3 49.1 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 27.5–28.0 Hz free-air to 42–43 Hz and half power lands at 43.2–49.1 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. Morel measures the 2 ohm and 4 ohm coils separately and publishes a different resonance and compliance for each, so both are plotted rather than averaged; the cabinet is sized to the coil that asks for the larger box and the other coil sits a little below Butterworth in it. Figures are from Morel’s current specification sheet; Morel’s 2016 manual prints a different parameter set that does not reproduce its own moving mass and is not used here.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 9.5 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 116–121 W unfiltered  →  172–187 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 4 8 12 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 9.5 mm 116 W reaches Xmax here
SC122 · 121 W, no filterSC124 · 116 W, no filterSC122 · 172 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octSC124 · 187 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 9.5 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 9.5 mm. Unfiltered that is 116 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits under the 600 W the driver can take thermally, so the enclosure sets the ceiling, not the voice coil. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 172 W before hitting the same 9.5 mm. That is 49 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

Measure the installed height, not the cabinet height. The box is 8.625 tall on its own and the feet add 1.75, so plan around 10.375 inches on the 41 by 14 footprint.

Height was solved to the airspace: 8.625 tall holds 1.676 net, against 1.66 in the standard box, and the motor clears the lid with 1.92 inches to spare. Same air, lower box.

The SC122 lands at Qtc 0.705, right on Butterworth; the 4 ohm SC124 rides along at Qtc 0.618.

Morel's spec sheet and Morel's 2016 manual disagree on this driver. The sheet's numbers reproduce their own moving mass; the manual's do not, so the sheet is what this cabinet is built to. Polyfill is already in as a wall lining; do not add more.

Measure installed height, not cabinet height: 8.625 on its own, 10.375 with the 1.75 inch feet on. The standard 30 by 15 is still the pick if you do not have 41 inches of run.

Questions

Why is this cabinet 41 inches wide instead of 30?

Because it trades length for depth and height. The standard Performance Optimized Down Fire platform is 30 wide by 15 deep; this one is 14 deep, 1 inch shallower, and 41 long. Spreading the airspace along 11 more inches lets the cabinet stand 8.625 inches tall instead of 10.44.

Fourteen inches of depth is the practical minimum, since a 12 inch frame needs about 13 inches of baffle. If your space is long and low rather than deep or tall, this is the shape that fits.

How does this compare to the standard 30 x 15 SC122 / SC124 enclosure?

Same driver, different shape. The standard cabinet is 30 by 15 by 10.44 inches and holds 1.66 cubic feet net. This cabinet is 41 by 14 by 8.625 inches and holds 1.676 cubic feet net.

The airspace is effectively the same, so the driver behaves the same way in either. Choose the standard box when length is limited; choose this one when height or depth is the limit and you have 41 inches of run.

What alignment does this cabinet produce with each coil?

At 1.676 cubic feet net the SC122 lands at Qtc 0.705, Fc 43.1 Hz and F3 43.2 Hz, essentially maximally flat. The SC124 lands at Qtc 0.618, Fc 42.2 Hz and F3 49.1 Hz, a touch more damped.

Both are computed from Morel's published parameters for each coil, and both are anechoic. Morel's own sealed recommendation for this driver is 20 to 50 liters, and this cabinet sits inside it.

What amplifier power should I run, and how should I wire it?

Morel rates the Ultimo Titanium SC at 600 watts RMS, so target 420 to 600 watts RMS. Both coils are single voice coil drivers: the SC122 is a nominal 2 ohm load at 1.3 ohms DC, the SC124 a nominal 4 ohm load at 3.0 ohms DC.

A 2 ohm load is within most monoblocks' rating, but confirm your amplifier's minimum stable impedance before you buy that coil; the 4 ohm SC124 is the safe answer on any amplifier.

Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?

Side mounted. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup, whether standard, wedge or down fire, which keeps the connection accessible with the baffle facing the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.

Why are the corners square instead of radiused?

Down Fire cabinets are built with square corners as a series standard. The 3 inch top down corner radius used on other Proline X alignments does not apply here. A down fire box is a low, long platform that sits flat against a floor or cargo deck, and square corners maximize usable internal volume for a given footprint while keeping the cabinet stable on its mounting surface.

How is this enclosure built?

V-groove and dado joinery, CNC cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that locks the panels before adhesive is applied, which keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling. The front baffle is a 1.5 inch double layer, the outer layer machined as a flush recess around the 10.35 inch cutout.

A windowed U-brace stiffens the long panels, and polyfill is installed as a light wall lining. Do not add more fill; packing a sealed box makes it act larger and moves the alignment off the 1.676 cubic feet it was built to. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Is the driver included? What do I get?

No driver. This is an enclosure only. You receive the cabinet finished in plush black carpet, threaded inserts pressed to the Morel bolt pattern, stainless machine screws, one side-mounted pre-wired terminal cup, the 1.75 inch feet and the polyfill lining in place. The Morel Ultimo Ti SC122 or SC124 is purchased separately.
