| Wiring Options | AudioControl sells the SPK-12 as SPK-12S2 (single 2 ohm) and SPK-12S4 (single 4 ohm); a matched pair should share a coil. A pair of single 2 ohm drivers lands on 1 ohm in parallel or 4 ohms in series. A pair of single 4 ohm drivers lands on 2 ohms in parallel or 8 ohms in series. Anything under 1 ohm, and many amplifiers at 1 ohm, is outside what the amplifier is built for, so series wiring is the safe default. |

Performance in this enclosure
01Is it a sealed driver?
Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.
02What the box does to it
1.00 cu ft against a 25.7 L Vas.
03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)
Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 14.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.
| Param | Value | Unit | Note |

| Fs | 37.35 / 40.42 | Hz | free-air resonance |
| Qts | 0.672 / 0.730 | SPK-12S2 / SPK-12S4 | |
| Vas | 25.70 / 27.41 | L | equivalent compliance |

From the shop floor
Installer's take
1.00 cubic feet per chamber: Qtc 0.928 on the SPK-12S2 (single 2 ohm) and Qtc 1.024 on the SPK-12S4 (single 4 ohm), F3 42.1 Hz on the SPK-12S2 (single 2 ohm) and 44.1 Hz on the SPK-12S4 (single 4 ohm).
Measure the installed height, not the cabinet height: 12.67 tall on its own, 14.42 with the standoffs on the 30 by 15 footprint.
Floor slot is 0.80 times the cone area at the 1.75 standoff, under the 1.0 I like. For hard use, taller feet or front firing.
AudioControl measures the 2 ohm and 4 ohm SPK-12 as separate drivers and they do not match, so every coil is aligned on its own figures. Their numbers hold together on every check I run.
No bolt circle is published, so the insert kit ships in the box: mark, drill and press at install. Sealed, so leave the polyfill as it is and run it at 500 watts or under per driver.

Questions
Does this fit the AudioControl Spike SPK-12, and will any other 12 inch fit?
The Spike SPK-12, yes, in both coil versions. The baffle is cut to 11.125 in for AudioControl's 12.760 in frame. The 6.14 inch motor clears the cabinet with 5.78 inch to spare. Run two of the same coil so the chambers match.
Any other 12, no. The airspace is engineered around the Spike SPK-12's own Qts and Vas, and a different woofer that happened to drop into the hole would not see the alignment printed on this page.
Why 1.00 cubic feet per chamber, and what alignment does it target?
1.00 cubic feet net per chamber on AudioControl's published figures: the SPK-12S2 (single 2 ohm) reads Qtc 0.928 with resonance at 51.6 Hz and half power at 42.1 Hz, and the SPK-12S4 (single 4 ohm) reads Qtc 1.024 with resonance at 56.7 Hz and half power at 44.1 Hz. One cabinet serves both coils. That is AudioControl's own recommended sealed size for this driver, 1 cubic feet, between their 0.85 minimum and 1.5 maximum. That is well above maximally flat: a clear lift near resonance and extra midbass, the way AudioControl voices it in this size.
Cabinet gain in a vehicle lifts the bottom end further, so in the car this reads deeper than the anechoic figures.
What amplifier power should I run, and how should I wire it?
AudioControl rates the Spike SPK-12 at 500 watts RMS per driver, so target 350 to 500 watts RMS per driver at the final load.
AudioControl sells the SPK-12 as SPK-12S2 (single 2 ohm) and SPK-12S4 (single 4 ohm); a matched pair should share a coil. Confirm your amplifier's minimum stable impedance first.
How tall is this once the standoffs are on?
The cabinet is 12.67 inches tall measured in the down fire position, and that figure excludes the standoffs. The standoffs hold 1.75 inches under the baffle, so plan your space around a finished stack of roughly 14.42 inches.
The footprint is the standard Performance Optimized down fire platform, 30.00 inches wide by 15.00 deep. Height is the only dimension solved to the driver.
Why two separate chambers instead of one shared volume?
Two drivers sharing one sealed volume load each other: each driver's compression stroke becomes the pressure the other works against, which blurs the alignment either would have alone. A bonded full-height 3/4 inch divider gives each driver its own 1.00 cubic feet and its own polyfill.
It also means a failure in one driver does not unload the other, and the alignment on this page is the alignment in each chamber, not an average across a shared box.
What is the expected low-frequency extension?
Anechoic F3 is 42.1 Hz on the SPK-12S2 (single 2 ohm) and 44.1 Hz on the SPK-12S4 (single 4 ohm) per chamber. Above Qtc 0.707 F3 sits below fc, so the response carries a small lift near resonance before it rolls off.
Those figures exclude cabin gain. In a car the cabin's transfer function adds real output below 50 Hz, so in-vehicle response runs deeper than the numbers above.
Do I need to add polyfill or damping?
No. Polyfill is already installed in both chambers as a light wall lining to control internal reflections, and the quantity is chosen so it does not change the acoustic volume.
Do not add more. Packing a sealed box with fill makes it behave as though it were larger, which walks the alignment away from the 1.00 cubic feet per chamber this cabinet was built to.
Is the driver included, and are the threaded inserts installed?
No driver. This is an enclosure only. You receive the cabinet finished in plush black carpet, one side-mounted pre-wired terminal cup to both positions, the polyfill lining already in place, the standoffs, and a threaded insert kit with stainless machine screws.
The inserts are not pre-installed: AudioControl publishes no bolt circle for the SPK-12, so set the driver in its recess, mark its holes, drill and press the inserts. The pair of AudioControl Spike SPK-12 is purchased separately, and the cabinet is cut direct fit to it, not a general purpose 12 inch box.
