This enclosure holds 0.75 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Image Dynamics IDMAX10 V4 D2 runs a system Qtc of 1.01 with half power at 35.0 Hz, and the cone reaches its 19.0 mm travel limit at 668 W, above the driver’s 500 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 721 W , +53 W, or 8 percent more power for the same 19.0 mm of travel.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 19.0 mm , and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 19.0 mm. Unfiltered that is 668 W, reached first at 32 Hz. It sits above the 500 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 721 W before hitting the same 19.0 mm. That is 8 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

This is the dual version of the sealed IDMAX10 box: two separate chambers, not one shared one, so each driver sees the same airspace the single gets.

Keeping the chambers isolated means one driver's motion does not pressurize the other's chamber, which is the point of building it this way instead of just doubling a shared box.

Wire the two D2 drivers series-parallel, the standard way to combine two dual-coil drivers into one sane load; check the result against what your amplifier is rated for.

It ships with polyfill inside each chamber, the way every sealed box in this line does. Set your high-pass filter between 20 and 25 Hz.

Why is this driver in a sealed enclosure?

Each chamber gets the same 0.75 cubic feet Image Dynamics themselves recommend a sealed box for, isolated from its neighbor so the two drivers do not interact through a shared airspace. The Qtc of 1.01 per chamber is the same tight, slightly peaked alignment as the single-driver box: a compact, controlled sound that trades away the last bit of reach for size, sitting close to Image Dynamics' own Universal tier. F3 per chamber works out to 35.0 Hz, the same as the single.

What makes this Professional rather than Performance Optimized?

The box. A Performance Optimized cabinet is cut to fit a trunk shape on a 1.5 inch double baffle; this one is a full-size front-firing box on a 2.25 inch triple baffle with the woofer flush-mounted in the outer layer, Image Dynamics logo acrylic. It carries a 2 year warranty against 1.

Threaded inserts or a kit?

Threaded inserts pressed into the baffle on the published 10.528 inch bolt circle, stainless machine screws included. The inserts are in the baffle when it arrives; the machine screws are in the terminal cup bag.

Do I need a subsonic filter?

Not for this sealed alignment; a 20 to 25 Hz high-pass only protects the driver from content below the cabinet's own roll-off.

Would a ported version be better for me?

It depends what you want from it. A ported box gives up nothing above its tuning frequency and adds output below it, at the cost of a subsonic filter and a fixed vent length. This alignment is sealed at Qtc 1.01, F3 35.0 Hz, 0.750 cu ft per chamber: flatter group delay and a gentler rolloff, with less output at the very bottom of the band.

Is the IDMAX10 V4 included?

No. This is an enclosure only, cut for the Image Dynamics IDMAX10 V4 specifically: the 9.646 inch cutout and the 7.598 inch mounting depth allowance come from Image Dynamics's published parameters. Bring your own driver.
